POKER TERMS beginning with "O"Odds: The ratio of the probability of making a hand to the probability of not making the hand (for example, if you have a 20% chance of making a hand, the odds are 4 to 1 against you). Off-Suit: Cards not of the same suit. Omaha: A poker game similar to Holdem, but using four down cards. A hand is still made using five cards, but exactly two cards from the player's must be used. For more information, see Omaha Poker Rules. Open: To make the first bet in a round. Open Pair: A Pair showing among your up cards (in Seven Card Stud). Opener: The player who makes the first bet in the round. Out: A live card that will improve your hand, usually referred to a card that will give you a winning hand. Outdraw: To make a better hand than another player by drawing better cards. Outside Straight: (AKA Open-Ended Straight). Four cards of a Straight (no Aces) which require a card at either end to complete the Straight. For example, 5-6-7-8 is an Outside Straight, while 5-7-8-9 is an Inside Straight. Overcall: An additional call after a bet is initially called. Overcard: A Pocket card higher than any other card on the Board. Overpair: A Pocket Pair higher than any other card on the Board.
