POKER TERMS beginning with "H"Hand: The cards that a player holds. Also refers to everything that happens in a game between shuffles (dealing, betting, declaring the winner). Heads Up: A play between only two players (one-on-one). Hearts: One of the four suits of cards (there are 13 Hearts in each deck of 52 cards). Help: Needing a hand to improve for a chance at winning the pot. High Hand: The best hand. High Poker: A standard game of poker (compared to Hi-Lo poker or Lowball). The High hand wins. Hi-Lo Poker: A game where the pot is split between the player with the highest hand and the player with the lowest qualifying hand. For more information, see Omaha Hi-Lo Poker Rules. Hit: To make a hand, generally implying having caught a particular card you needed. The opposite is to Miss, which means you didn't catch the card you needed. Hold Em: (AKA Texas Hold Em). A game where the players get two down cards and five community cards to make the best possible five card hand. For more information, see Hold Em Poker Rules. Hole: Your first two down cards are "In the Hole" (face down). Hole Card: In Stud and Hold Em poker games, the face down cards dealt to each player are called Hole Cards. House: The casino or cardroom hosting the poker game.
