Sun Poker Review
You might notice that our Sun Poker review is similar to our review of InterPoker.
This is because they both use Cryptologic software for their games, and these online poker rooms share a common player base with each other. The main differences are
their bonuses and promotions, and the color of their poker room "skin" (yellow & green vs. blue and brown). SunPoker.com has become quite a popular site
and gets high ratings in just about every category - most notably for their volume of players and soft competition, tournaments, and high stakes Hold'em games.
Sun Poker (formerly named Caribbean Sun)
is part of Peak Entertainment, an established online gaming company (their casino is Sands of the Caribbean). ♣ ♣ For more opinions and tips for SunPoker.com, be sure to read our other Sun Poker reviews. Sun Poker Ratings
Overall Sun Poker ratings based on our poker review are (out of 10):
Sun Poker Games and Table StakesSun Poker currently offers the following games: Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha High Lo, Seven Card Stud. They have games denominated in US Dollars, Euros, and Pounds Sterling with table stakes ranging from $0.10/$0.25 to $150/$300. You can see the percent of players viewing the flop for each table in the card room lobby (some can get quite high, even at some of the high stakes tables). One cool promotion is that Sun Poker puts up $10,000 cash each month for their ring game leaders. Players are rewarded for playing the most hands at their $1-$2, $4-$8, $5-$10 and higher tables. The rake at SunPoker.com is in line with industry standards. They also recently lowered the rake for short-handed tables (less than 4 players seated at the table), which is noteworthy if you plan to play short-handed games. Players and Soft CompetitionSun shares its player base with InterPoker and has players from all over the world. Like at it's sister site, you will probably be able to find some loose tables and soft competition at all hours of the day. Review of Sun TournamentsSun holds a large number of single-table and multi-table poker tournaments. They have $3.5 Million in Guaranteed Tournaments every month including a weekly £40K Guaranteed Tournament every Sunday. Like most of the top online poker sites, they also hold tournaments (WSOP qualifiers) where you can win seats in the World Series of Poker. They also hold special tournaments such as the Sun Poker Classic (CPC) in beautiful St. Kitts where the estimated prize pool is $1,000,000. You can qualify for this tournament in a weekly Super Satellite, where 1 in 50 players qualify for a seat to the CPC! Prop Player Incentives at Sun PokerIf you are waiting for a game on a full table, you may receive a message offering you a cash incentive to become a temporary prop player at their poker room. This incentive scheme helps them balance the tables and start new games. Sun Software and StatisticsSun Poker uses CryptoLogic software (the same as InterPoker, but with a different "skin"). The software has has a good system for taking notes on players, and you can also request your hand history. Graphics are basic but attractive. As a new player, you can only watch and play their free games until you have registered for a real account. But once you register you can watch the real money tables, without having to make a deposit to your account. A new addition to their software is the option to play high-speed Lightning games. SunPoker.com Bonus and Bad Beat JackpotSunPoker.com matches you 100% on your first deposit up to $50, which you earn after 250 raked hands. Additionally, on your second deposit you can get a reload bonus of 100% (up to $100), which you earn after 500 raked hands (and which requires a special bonus code which will be posted on their home page each month. Their loyaly program consists of adding an extra $40 in free chips to your account after you have played 200 raked hands during each month (excluding tournaments). They also have a progressive Bad Beat Jackpot with a minimum of $2,500/£1,500. In addition, all players that receive a royal flush during real money games receive a Royal Flush Jackpot of $500/£300.
