Review of Titan Poker
|
Our review of Titan poker center on one of the newest iPoker sites, and it's proving to be popular amongst new players. The software has a nice color scheme, runs
very quickly, and serves up some good fixed-limit action, which is becoming rare on niche poker sites. They also offer a $1,000 freeroll for all new players and a
very generous signup bonus. Overall, this is our top iPoker site, especially for players just starting with online poker.

Fish: 3.5
The players on this network are mostly new players, thus the games are usually for small stakes in terms of no-limit tables. Most of the games are relegated to $1 and
under stakes, but the competition is very weak, and players seem to call raises with just about anything. I definitely recommend raising more than you would at other
sites to eliminate hands that might draw out on you. The games are fast paced, and players tend to call more raises (and pay you off) on Titan. You can also find pretty
loose fixed-limit games up to the $5/10 level. I recommend this site for newer players because you tend to be against players around your skill level.
Sharks: 2 (inverse rating)
Titan isn't a particular predatory site, and the fish-to-shark ratio is very good. Typically, you'll run into a lot more plain bad players than sharks. Your main concern
should be on improving your own game and focusing on your own actions. When you lose a pot on Titan, it usually won't be due to your own ineptitude, rather it will be
that fish in seat 7 who hit his 3 outer on the river. You'll find soft games and relatively shark-free waters here.
Bait (promotions): 5
This site is offering very strong promotions to encourage new action from players. Normally you'll receive a 100% bonus, up to $500. However, by using Toppoker.org's
special bonus code: turtle, you will receive an exclusive bonus of 150% up to $600 on your first deposit, which is very nice for larger bankrolls.
I also like this bonus more than other iPoker sites because of the cashout structure. While most iPoker sites are somewhat stingy about releasing your bonus, it is a
little easier to earn it as a small-stakes player on Titan. Another nice promotion is the $1,000 freeroll for new depositing players, which typically doesn't attract
more than 400 or so players. This gives you a good shot to pick up some extra money without any playing requirements. They're also holding a $25,000 prize for anyone
who wins 6 designated Sit 'n Go tourneys in a row. I give the promotions high marks here for giving new players a reason to come.
Skin (software): 4.5
Titan has my favorite iPoker skin software. While the functionality is the same, I like the color scheme that ties in with the overall theme of the site. The blue
gradients are very sleek and tend to be easier on the eyes than many sites. The actual software has detailed avatars that you're able to choose from, a convenient
lobby, and a nice hand history feature. I also appreciate the fast game speed, as full tables usually run at 65-70 hands/hour.
Prey (tournaments): 3.5
The tournament traffic is considerably lower at Titan than other established poker sites. I recommend that this be your secondary tournament site for now while they
build traffic. Still, they offer popular small events for $1-5, as well as the occasional freeroll that fills up quickly. These are run at a fast-pace to get them over
with in a reasonable amount of time. I give them a decent rating because I like the tournaments structure of successful events. Titan has difficulty filling up larger
buy-in tournaments, so big tournament players will be at somewhat of a loss here.
Overall Titan Poker Rating
Pearls (positives)
Titan gives new players a very generous deposit bonus and an exclusive freeroll for depositors. They also host some strong promotions and offer good software.
Hooks (negatives)
The overall traffic is still growing, so you won't find a lot of game variety or tournament offerings. Also, ring games tend to be dominated by shorthanded games.
However, I expect this to improve as they increase advertising.
The Hammer (overall rating): 4

Tips for Playing at Titan Poker
Meat (tips)
Titan provides a good amount of information about the competition at a ring game before you even open it up. Next time you're looking for a seat, take a moment and look
at some of these statistics as they'll help you choose the type of game that you're best suited for. Do you like to see a lot of cheap flops with drawing hands?
This is perfectly acceptable if you're getting the right pot odds, so take a look at the player percentage per flop. Many of these games reach 50 or 60%, and that
means that 5 or 6 players will routinely see a flop in a 10-handed game. Do you like to play a tight game against 1 or 2 opponents? Choose a lower flop percentage and a
higher average pot. I consider anything above 40 or 50 times the big blind in a no-limit ring game a big pot.
Blubber (babble)
All the rage in online poker these days seems to be in shorthanded games. You can play 6-handed, 5-handed, or heads-up matches for any number of stakes. In fact, at most
sites, these tables far outnumber full 9 or 10-handed ring games. While I understand the desire for fast-paced action, a tight and consistent player can get into real
trouble playing in these games. Why? You have to play too many hands in these shorthanded games to make a profit. The blinds will simply come around too quickly to
play only premium cards. If you want to play poker by the fundamentals, stick to full games.
